Green City zeppole: Expensive, but worth it. Mostly.

Despite the crazy exorbitant price on these cinnamon-sugar covered gems -- a price only the clientele of Green City Market would tolerate -- I think they are the best thing to happen to Chicago doughnuts ever. And here are five reasons why:

  • They are the most delicious doughnuts I¡¯ve eaten in my life.
  • They are made with mostly local and organic ingredients, which makes you feel virtuous while eating DOUGHNUTS.
  • Unless you are super rich, you will never gorge yourself on them.
  • They offer a great teaching opportunity for parents who want to explain to kids why anyone in their right mind would pay $1 per dough ball when Dunkin Munchkins cost 6 for $1.
  • Their price and shrimpy quantity exemplify my credo that the ideal way to enjoy food is to buy the highest quality products and eat them in the kind of restrained portions that ensure you appreciate and savor every morsel.
